The Harvard Program on Central Asia and the Caucasus with support from IREX is in the final stages of preparing a second, revised edition of the Guide to Scholars of Central Asia (first published in 1995, including nearly 1,000 scholars from countries throughout the world). The Guide's purpose is to promote contacts and communication among scholars in this field. Included are scholars in the Social Sciences and Humanities who have made some contribution to the study of Central Asia (as a minimum for inclusion one must have at least 3 items of bibliography: articles, books and/or a doctoral dissertation). For these purposes, Central Asia is defined as including the Central Asian states of Kazakstan, Kirghizstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, and closely related areas, such as the Volga Basin, the Caucasus, Southwest Siberia, East Turkistan, Mongolia, North Afghanistan, and Northeast Iran. All time periods are included.

Scholars who wish to be included in the new edition have a VERY LITTLE time left to be included.

Those who wish to order a copy of the Guide when it is printed may send us a note and we'll add you to the mailing list for a notice about the Guide's publication information and price.

For Russian-speakers: Esli Vy predpochitali by zapolnit' anketu po-russki, to mozhno zdes', ili soobshchite nam, i my Vam prishlem russkii variant po elektronnoi pochte.

We appeal to all scholars and institutions in this field to assist in making the Guide as complete as possible by helping us to distribute the Questionnaire to colleagues. Please don't allow colleagues in your institution or field to be missed!

You may obtain a questionnaire to submit via e-mail by sending a request to <centasia(a)fas.harvard.edu> or to:
