Funding for the data
gathering projects which have contributed to «Central Eurasian Studies
World Wide» has been provided by a variety of organizations, including
the International Research & Exchanges
Board (IREX), the Ford Foundation, the U.S. Dept. of Education's Title VI
program through a grant to Harvard University's National
Resource Center for Russian, East European & Central Asian Studies (NRC
REECAS), the National Council for Soviet & East European Research (NCSEER),
the Social Science Research Council
(SSRC), the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP), and the Wenner-Gren Foundation
for Anthropological Research.
Most importantly,
the Soros Foundation-Kazakstan awarded
a substantial grant (1998-2000) for development of the website.
An innumerable number
of scholars have offered information which has contributed to «Central
Eurasian Studies World Wide». Six individuals have been instrumental
in gathering the data on institutions and resources in Central Asian Studies
in the former Soviet republics: Olga Bronnikova and Oksana Solov'eva (in Russia),
Julie Fairbanks (in Russia and especially Tatarstan and the North Caucasus),
Nabi Rakhimov (in Tajikistan and Turkmenistan), Bakhytnur Otarbaeva (in Kazakstan
and Kirghizstan), and Valery Germanov (in Uzbekistan). Work on the Guide
to Scholars of Central Asia was contributed by Olga Bronnikova, Julie Fairbanks,
Gulnora Aminova, Nabi Rakhimov, Oleg Panfilov, and Svetlana Ordian, with the
assistance of many others. Significant contributions to various bibliographies
and other publication information sources have been made by many current and
former Harvard students, including Kenan Akfirat, Dominika Baran, Alana Cooper,
Mark Coumounduos, Ben Dunlap, Jonathan Edwards, Gregory Feifer, Jiger Janabel,
Roxanna K. Blake, James Lee, Patrick Lyons, Sean Pollock, Sharen M. Shackelford,
Eric Sievers, Evdokia Stefanova, Kristen Stilt, and Eunjeong Yi.
We have also had assistance
from Sona Khanova, working as an intern in our program, and from Mila Khafizova,
who provided volunteer assistance.
Acknowledgement is
also particularly due to Julie Fairbanks, Mark Hannafin, Laura Adams and Laurie
Johnston who have contributed their efforts and creativity in the design, development
and administion of the website.
